Founded in 1961, STATE SCHOOL OF SPORTS has been a center of excellence for boys in the heart of Jalandhar, Punjab. Managed by the Department of Education, our school is dedicated to nurturing young minds from Grades 9 to 12, fostering an environment where academic achievement and sportsmanship go hand in hand. This is only a boys' school from Grades 9 to 12.
At our school, the syllabus is taught in three languages (English, Punjabi, and Hindi), depending upon the medium of instruction selected by students. We emphasize a holistic approach to education, blending traditional values with modern learning techniques. Our goal is to empower every student to reach their fullest potential in academics, sports, and personal growth.

History
The State of Punjab has always held a prominent position in the field of sports. To preserve its rich legacy and past glory in athletics, the Punjab Government took a visionary step in 1961 by establishing a one-of-a-kind institution. Under the leadership of the then Chief Minister Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon, the foundation of the State School-cum-Sports College in Jalandhar was laid.
This became Punjab’s first and only dedicated sports-based school, where students are provided not only with quality education but also with professional training to compete at state and national levels. Over the decades, this institution has played a significant role in making Punjab renowned in the world of sports.
The school’s founding principal was Shri Jagdeesh Mittar, whose leadership laid a strong foundation. Over time, many dedicated and visionary principals have led the school, each contributing to its growing success in the field of sports.
Recognizing the increasing interest of Punjabi youth in sports, the Punjab Government constructed a new modern campus, which was completed in May 2016. To nurture emerging talent, the Sports Department of Punjab has appointed expert coaches for various disciplines.
Through its commitment to nurturing sporting talent and academic excellence, the State School of Sports, Jalandhar, continues to be a pillar of Punjab’s sporting heritage.
